Tribulus terrestris is a prostrate annual. Its principle constituent is harman. It has tonic and aphrodisiac properties. It is known to increase the quantity of semen and is useful in diseases of the genitourinary tract. The plant and seeds have spasmolytic and cardiotonic activity. The fruits, seeds and different extracts and active constituents possess pharmacodynamic properties and uses. It is diuretic, cooling, tonic and aphrodisiac, useful in painful micturition, calculus affections, urinary discharges and impotence, in gout, in kidney diseases, inhibition of tyrosinase, as anabolic, vasodepressant, muscle relaxant and aphrodisiac, urolithiasis and crystalluria, cardiotonic, hypercholesterolemia and polycythemia.
